Propecia common medical uses:
Propecia belongs to the group of medicines called enzyme inhibitors. This
medicine is an androgen hormone inhibitor used to treat male pattern hair
loss IN MEN ONLY. Propecia is available by prescription only.
Before using Propecia:
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Propecia. INFORM
YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine
that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions,
allergies, or pregnancy. USE OF Propecia IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are
female. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or
concerns about using this medicine.
Propecia directions:
Follow the directions for using Propecia provided by your doctor. You
could see results in as little as 3 months Ask your doctor or pharmacist
any questions that you may have about this medicine. This medicine may
be taken on an empty stomach or with food. It is important to take Propecia
regularly to get the most benefit. If you stop taking Propecia, your results
will gradually go away over 12 months. And if it hasn’t worked in 12 months,
it is unlikely to be of benefit.
Propecia side effects:
Clinical tests showed Propecia was very well tolerated. A SIDE EFFECT
that may occur while taking Propecia is a change in sexual function. If
it continues or is bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR
IMMEDIATELY if you experience the following side effects or symptoms of
toxicity: skin rash or swelling of lips. If you notice other effects not
listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Propecia precautions:
It may take several months for Propecia to work. Do not stop taking this
medicine without checking with your doctor. Stopping Propecia will result
in a return within 12 months to the same amount of baldness as when you
started. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking
this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription
or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. ANY WOMAN WHO
IS PREGNANT OR WHO MAY BECOME PREGNANT SHOULD NOT HANDLE crushed or broken
tablets of this medicine. If a woman who is pregnant comes in contact
with crushed or broken tablets of Propecia, contact your doctor as soon
as possible. There are no restrictions on food, beverages, or activities
during treatment with Propecia unless your doctor directs otherwise.
Drug interactions:
Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you
may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist
approval.
Missed dose:
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However,
if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back
to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
Overdose:
IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or
emergency room immediately.
Storage:
STORE Propecia at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and
30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from moisture. Keep
out of the reach of children.
Additional information:
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed.
DO NOT USE Propecia for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out
of the reach of children. IF USING Propecia FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF
TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
